Four policemen arrested for extortion

Four policemen have been arrested on the charges of extortion here, police said.

The cops - constables Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Javed Ahmad Lone, Showkat Ahmad Malik and Manzoor Ahmad Hajam - were arrested in connection with a complaint of extortion lodged at Sherghari police station, a police spokesman said.

"Further investigation in the matter is going on", he added.

Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Batamaloo locality of the city, had lodged a complaint stating that he was robbed of Rs 50,000 by some "armed uniformed men" at Solina on Srinagar-Airport road on April 3, police said.
