Four sentenced to 10 years RI in explosives case

A local court today sentenced four men to 10 years rigourous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on each of them in a 2002 case of seizure of a cache of explosives.

The Special Court for Bomb Blast Cases, Poonammallee convicted Zakir Hussain alias Zakir, Towfiq alias Yasir, Nizamuddin and Abdul Quadir alias Mohammed Abdul Quadir and sentenced them to 10 years RI.

If they failed to pay the fine they would each attract an additional year of imprisonment, the court said.

On November 29, 2002, the police had apprehended Zakir Hussain and Towfiq with gelatin sticks and detonators.
 

A case was registered here and further arrests were made and a cache of explosives was seized.

Later, the probe was transferred to Special Investigation Division of the CB-CID.
