Freight earning by SER increases by 8 per cent

The South Eastern Railway has achieved an 8.01 per cent growth in freight earnings, while passenger earnings have increased by 5.37 per cent in 2017-18 in comparison to the previous financial year, a senior official said here today.

The SER has earned Rs 12062.77 crore from originating freight traffic this fiscal as against Rs 11168.08 crore during 2016-2017, recording a jump of Rs. 894.69 crore, SER spokesman Sanjoy Ghosh said.

"The increase in freight earnings has been made possible due to highest ever loading of 150.76 million tonnes of freight in 2017-18 as against 147.73 million tonnes loaded previous fiscal," he said.

 

From passenger traffic, the SER has earned Rs 2030.32 crore in 2017-18, which stood at Rs 1926.87 crore in 2016-17.

Out of the total passenger earnings of Rs 2030.32 crore, earnings from suburban passengers were Rs 105.80 crore while earnings from non-suburban passengers were Rs 1924.52 crore.

The total number of passengers carried by SER during 2017-18 was 259.62 million, he said.
