Freight loadings register more than 6 per cent growth

Railways have carried 511 million tonnes (MT) of freight traffic during the first half of fiscal 2013 against 481.35 MT transported during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.16 per cent.
The freight carried during September was 84.86 MT, an increase of 8.93 MT over the loadings of 75.93 MT carried by the national transporter during the same period last year.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 40,293.70 cr in April-September 2012 to Rs 44,191.92 cr during the corresponding period this year, registering a growth of 9.67 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.
