A CPI (Maoist) member, carrying reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, today surrendered before Visakhapatnam police, along with five other militia members.

K Vara Prasad and five militia members turned themselves in before Visakhapatnam district SP Vikramjeet Duggal.

Vara Prasad was involved in an attack on a police station in the district in 2005 while the other members participated in activities like cutting of trees, digging of roads, supply of foods and attending for preparation of food to the naxals, police said.

The SP said that taking advantage of innocent tribals, the Maoists were using them for their anti-social activities.

"We have a list of militia members who supported the Maoists and we are inviting them to surrender voluntarily, failing which action will be taken against them as per law, Duggal said.
