Gandhinagar sizzles at 44.5 degree Celsius

Most parts of Gujarat today reeled under severe heatwave with state capital Gandhinagar recording the highest maximum temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius.

People experienced hot weather conditions, with maximum temperature ranging between 41 to 44 degree Celsius during the day at many places across the state.

A press bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre here today, Gandhinagar city remained hottest with 44.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Surendranagar (44), Rajkot (43.8), Ahmedabad (43.3), Deesa (43), Amreli (42.9), Vallabh Vidyanagar (42.2) and Baroda (41.6).

The maximum temperature during the day remained above normal in many parts of Gujarat, including Saurashtra and Kutch, said the release.
 

Looking at the current weather conditions, officials of the Met Centre said there will not be any respite from the heat in days to come.

"Since it's May, such heat was expected. In the next couple of days, the day time temperature will remain between 42 to 43 degrees Celsius at several places in Gujarat," said Assistant Director of the Met Centre, Manorama Mohanty.
