Gauriganj to get 'nagar palika' status

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to accord 'nagar palika' (municipality) status on Gauriganj, the district headquarters of Amethi district.

Gauriganj is at present part of Katra Lalganj panchayat, Amethi district magistrate Jagat Raj Tripathi said here today.

The new nagar palika parishad will comprise 11 gram panchayats -- Katra Lalganj, Madhavpur, Mishrauli, Palia, Barnatikar, Asaidapur, Rajgarh, Balipur Khurd, Pachehri, Chauhanapur and Harapur.

Residents of Gauriganj and its neighbouring panchayat areas have welcomed the government move.
