Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) chief Subash Ghising has been suffering from jaundice and was admitted to a private nursing home.
The nursing home authorities said the condition of Ghishing, who initiated the Gorkhaland movement in the 1980s, was stable and he was under observation.
The nursing home authorities said a medical board has been set up to look after the former head of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, which has now been replaced by the Gorkha Territorial Administration led by Bimal Gurung.
Ghishing was admitted to the nursing home at Siliguri near here on Thursday.
