The Congress today lashed out at the BJP-led Goa government over its decision to allow private hospitals to conduct organ transplant surgeries.

A committee headed by Goa Health Secretary Sudhir Mahajan today began process to allow a private facility -- Manipal Hospital -- to conduct organ transplants.

"The decision to allow private hospitals to conduct organ transplant surgeries without following proper transparent procedures is a big scam," Congress spokesperson Reginaldo Lourenco said.

He questioned the 'haste' in which this decision was taken.

Isidore Fernandes, another Congress leader, said there is no transparency in the process of granting permission.

When contacted, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said he has full faith in the integrity of Health Secretary and decisions taken by him as the head of the committee.
