The Goa cabinet today gave its nod for an amendment to the Goa Lokayukta Act, which will extend the deadline for the elected representatives to file their annual financial statements to November 5.

At present, it is mandatory for the elected representatives under the Goa Lokayukta Act to file their financial statements before June 30 every year, failing which defaulters' names are made public by the Lokayukta.

The Lokayukta, this year, published the names of several leaders including Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for failing to file their annual financial statements.

"The amendment will be introduced in the monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly which starts on July 19," Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai told reporters after the state cabinet meeting here.

"The government is of the view that it is not possible to file the financial details by June 30," he said.
