A Syrian national has been detained in connection with a letter threatening to harm Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, police said today.
"Goa Police has detained one person last night. The interrogation is on," Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who also holds the Home portfolio, told reporters on the sidelines of an event here today without divulging further details.
According to police sources, two more persons--a Yemenese and a Nigerian--have been detained from a casino in Baga and are being quizzed by ATS, which is probing the case.
Sources said that Calangute police is also interrogating them. The trio were overstaying here after expiry of their visa.
However, Inspector General of Police, Sunil Garg only confirmed interrogation of a Syrian national in the case and remained tight-lipped about other detentions.
The threat letter, purportedly signed by ISIS, was received by the State Secretariat on January 13.
