Director Gareth Edwards has exited "Godzilla 2".

The British director, who helmed the first film in the series in 2014, left the director's chair three days after Warner Bros moved back the release of the reboot by nine months to March 22, 2019, reported Variety.

The current version of "Godzilla 2" is written by Max Borenstein.

A source close to Edwards said his decision is not related to any issues with the "Godzilla" franchise, but rather a desire to do smaller projects after directing two big films - "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".

The first Godzilla appeared in 1954 and has generated 28 movies.
