Gold valued at Rs 36.41 lakh seized from 6 passengers

About 1.40 kg of gold valued at Rs 36.41 lakh has been seized from six passengers who arrived here by different flights from Singapore and Malaysia, airport officials said.

The seizures were effected late last night, they said.

They said 600 grams of gold concealed in an electric sandwich making machine was seized from one A Mohammed Sheriff and 300 grams from one A Abdul Jaffer, who had hidden it in a toaster.

Another 199 grams of gold was seized from M Mohammed Modeen. Two others, K Mohammed Ismail and Samsukhasimkani were nabbed while trying to each smuggle in 100 grams of the yellow metal by hiding it in their clothes, the officials said.
 

R Mohammed Rizwan was caught while trying to bring in 100 grams of gold which he had concealed in his body.

All the six persons have been detained for questioning, they said.
