Gold worth Rs 84 lakh found hidden in toilet at Hyd airport

Gold bars weighing three kg and a gold chain, worth Rs 84 lakh altogether, were seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence from the flush tank in a toilet at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here, with the arrest of one person.

Based on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted a passenger who had come from Dubai yesterday afternoon and found that he had secreted three gold bars and a gold chain in the flush tank of the toilet near the immigration, DRI's Additional Director S A Usmani said today.

The contraband was kept in nylon pouches. The smugglers intended to retrieve it later.
 

The passenger -- name not disclosed -- was produced before the economic offences court here which remanded him in 14-day judicial custody.
