At a time when Rahul Gandhi targeted Narendra Modi on demonetisation, a Congress General Secretary sought to compliment the Prime Minister noting that he has started remembering his poll promises and said at least for today "socialism has been ushered in India".
"It is good that it appeared the Prime Minister has started remembering the poll promises," Janardan Dwivedi told reporters.
In an apparent reference to the situation caused by demonetisation of high monetary notes, he said at least today "socialism has been ushered in India" in view of the fact that those who have lot of resources and those who are 'have nots' have become equal.

Dwivedi quoted a Urdu couplet to drive home his point: 'Dil khush hua hain masjide viran dekhkar, mere tarah khuda ka bhi khana kharab hai' (My heart is happy seeing the mosque deserted, the fate of god is as bad as mine).
He said the claims made while declaring the demonetisation were that it would eliminate black money, improve the economy, curb terrorism as also resources for anti-national activities and help the common man.
"If all these happen, then it should be welcomed."
Dwivedi, however, said his remarks should be seen as personal opinion or satire.
Replying to a question, he lamented that the situation obtaining today is that only those who are resourceful could play a role in the field of politics, economics and business and common man has virtually no role there.
Dwivedi's remarks came close on the heels of the Congress Vice President wondering as to how bringing in the new Rs 2000 note is going to make black money hoarding a lot harder.
In remarks laced with sarcasm, Gandhi said on Twitter "Well done Mr Modi".
"Real culprits" who have stashed black money are "sitting tight" while lives of farmers, small shopkeepers and housewives "have been thrown in utter chaos," he said in a series of tweets.
Modi last night announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will no longer be legal tender in a bid to fight against black money and corruption.
