In a unique initiative, Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul today decided to institute an award for the three top scorers among boys and girls each in class 12 examinations in the state.
The annual 'Governor's Award' will be given from this year onwards to three boys and three girls who stand first, second and third in Science, Arts and Commerce streams in the Class 12 examination conducted by Uttarakhand Secondary Board, a Raj Bhawan release here said.
Eligible students of both government and private schools will be awarded, it said.

The three top-scorers in class 10 examination will also be honoured with the award each year.
The Governor will also honour top three schools that achieve excellent results and they will be given Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively to buy books for their libraries.
A provision has been especially made in the Governor's discretionary fund for the awards, the release said.
The top three scorers among students will get a cash reward of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 and a certificate.
