The government today cautioned would-be Haj pilgrims not to fall prey to "misleading" advertisements by some "unscrupulous" elements promising various facilities for Haj this year.

The Union Minority Affairs Ministry clarified that it has allocated 45,000 Haj seats to private tour operators (PTOs) and appealed pilgrims to refer to official websites, www.Minorityaffairs.Gov.In and www.Haj.Gov.In, for the list of approved operators.

"Instances have come to the notice of this Ministry that unscrupulous elements are publishing misleading advertisements in print media to entice intending Haj pilgrims with false promises of making arrangements for Haj 2017 with different types of facilities by implying that they have got Haj quota allotted from this ministry," the ministry said in a statement.

It advised pilgrims to check the websites and take precautions before engaging an operator to prevent incidents of cheating.
