An employee of the block development office in Badgam district was today arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance organisation for allegedly accepting bribe.

"Mohammad Maqbool Mir, a Technical Assistant (JE) in BDO office Khansahib in Budgam district, was caught by a special surveillance squad of JK Vigilance Organisation while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000," a spokesman of the organisation said.

Mir had allegedly demanded the bribe from Mudasir Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Kulbugh in Tehsil Khansahib in central Kashmir, for releasing the payment of Rs 90,000 relating to the construction work of a lane under MGNREGA scheme.

The spokesman said the accused had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, but it was then settled at Rs 2,000.

Mir registered a complaint with the organisation following which a trap was laid by the vigilance sleuths and the accused was caught, the spokesman said.
