Govt hostels to be developed as residential schools, colleges

Andhra Pradesh Minister of for Social Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu here said today that all social welfare hostels in the state would be developed as residential schools and colleges in a phased manner.

Babu told reporters during an inspection of hostels state-run hostels here that construction will take place for an estimated budget of Rs 10,000 crore.

He said that at present, the state runs 1,440 SC (Scheduled Caste) and 167 ST (Scheduled Tribe) hostels with a total strength of about four lakh students.

The minister, later inaugurated a new building for a ST hostel constructed at Jaggaihpet in Krishna district.
