Government has developed a training package to encourage adolescent boys to stay away from drug abuse and become motivated to opt for its treatment.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM) and Lady Irwin College has developed the package titled 'Aaj Aur Kal Ke Liye'.

"The uniqueness of the programme is that the training modules have been developed by boys who are either undergoing addiction treatment or those who are in the process of recovery.

"These boys act as peer educators and they will impart training to other boys who are in early phase of drug abuse," said Dr Rajesh Kumar, Director SPYM.

"Drug-dependent adolescent boys in conflict with law and staff of the SPYM Juvenile Drug De-addiction Centre in Delhi were engaged from concept to design and field testing of these materials over a period of two years with nearly 500 boys.

"This has given the boys a strong sense of ownership and pride in the reading materials and games that they have developed," Dr Mridula Seth, who has conceptualised the programme, said.
