Govt Press staff stage protest against reported shift plan

Members of various political parties and staff observed a day-long fast here today to protest the Centre's reported move to shift the 50-year-old government press from the city.

There were reports that the Centre had decided to shift the Government Press functioning for over 50 years to a northern State, rendering some 80 staff jobless.

Representatives of AIADMK, DMK, Congress, CPI and CPI(M) took part in the fast, police said.

About 150 persons, including the government press staff here and their families participated, they added.
