: Puducherry government has restored supply of 10 kg rice and five kg wheat free of cost through ration shops, discontinuing the payment of cash of Rs 300 per card through banks.
An official communication said that Lt Governor has approved of the scheme of free supply of rice and wheat through ration shops to all ration card holders.
Rice and wheat would be available free of cost to all card holders in all the regions of the Union Territory between the 10th and 20th day every month.

The rice and wheat are being supplied without considering income of the families. The government owned Agro Products, Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (PAPSCO) is the implementing agency in Pudhcherry, Karaikal and Mahe regions while the Cooperative Society is the agency in Yanam region.
The government had been supplying rice and wheat free of cost till February this year and after modifying the scheme started disbursing cash payment through banks.
Most political parties had demanded that government restore supply of rice and wheat and discontinue cash payment.
Conceding the representation, government has now restored status quo ante with effect from this month.
