Continuing a sharp upward trend for the second consecutive week, prices of gram dal further soared by Rs 1,000 per quintal in the wholesale foodgrain market here during the week ended today.
Opening the week at Rs 10,300, an increase of Rs 300 per quintal over the previous week rate, prices of gram dal rose steeply by Rs 700 the next day and held on to the gain to settle at Rs 11,000 per quintal.
Last week, gram dal had registered one of its biggest increases in recent times when it netted a total gain of Rs 1,100 per quintal to close the week at Rs 10,000.

During this week, sugar opened Rs 50 higher per quintal at Rs 3,900 and ended the week at its opening rate.
Maida (90 kg) also edged up by Rs 50 to Rs 2,650 against its previous week close and ended the week at the same rate.
Urad dal moved down by Rs 100 per quintal from Rs 15,000 to Rs 14,900.
Tur dal (Rs 13,500), moong dal (Rs 8,800), wheat (Rs 2,850) and sooji (Rs 3,200) remained unchanged at their previous closing rates throughout the week.
