Gujarat Congress today said it would give a call for bandh in villages soon on the issue of crop insurance, which the state farmers were yet to receive "due to the negligence of Gujarat government".
"We will launch an agitation on the issue of crop insurance soon. We will give a call for bandh in villages as farmers of the state have not received crop insurance money," state Congress chief Arjun Modhvadia said.
"The state government, instead of showing 14,12,530 hectares area under sowing last year when rains were deficient, had shown just 8,08,291 hectares under cultivation.

"Due to this, farmers of the state, who have paid insurance premiums, instead of getting crop insurance to the tune of Rs 2,828 crore will only be liable to get Rs 1,608 crore," the Congress leader alleged.
Modhvadia said that he has received this information under Right to Information Act.
"The state government to save itself, is blaming the central government for non-payment of crop insurance dues to farmers," he alleged.
Last year, the crop had failed in many areas of the state due to deficient rains.
