Gujarat CM starts school enrolment drive

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today kicked-off a three-day long 'Shala Praveshotsav' (school enrolment drive) along with the girl child education drive for rural areas from a village in Gir-Somnath district.

The statewide drive is aimed at achieving 100 per cent enrolment of students in primary schools and reduce drop\ out ratio. The drive was started by Patel from Arnej village of Gir Somnath district, according to an official release.

The chief minister enrolled 86 students in primary school and 60 toddlers in Anganwadi centre of that village. She also inaugurated a girls's school as well as a Kasturba Gandhi School, built at a cost of Rs 70 lakh, it said.
 

Speaking on the occasion, Patel stated that her government is trying hard to uproot corruption and irregularities from all the sectors, including education, and provide an environment which gives ample opportunities to the students.

Tomorrow, she will be at Kherpada village of Narmada district to take part in the enrolment drive at a local primary school, it added.

This initiative was first started by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi 13 years back and have been observed every year since then, it said, adding the drive in rural areas will be held till June 13, while drive for urban centres will be held between June 18 and 20.
