Guns fall silent in Poonch area along LoC

After six days of massive exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops, guns fell silent today in Poonch area along LoC following a "befitting reply" by Indian Army.

"There was no ceasefire violation from Pakistan till this evening--Guns have fallen silent after our befitting reply to Pakistan firing yesterday," a senior Army officer said.

Turning the 2003 Indo-Pak border truce "meaningless", Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on LoC posts for the past six days.

"The 2003 Indo-Pak ceasefire has become meaningless-- There is daily firing these days as was witnessed before 2003 when truce between India and Pakistan took place," a senior security officer said.
 

There has been 60 ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops this year from January 1 to August 5, which is more than 80 per cent more than the last year during the same corresponding period.
