Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung today said that the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee would meet soon to discuss whether to withdraw their indefinite agitation in view of the Union Home Minister's appeal in this regard.

Gurung, however, made it clear that the movement for a separate state would continue.

"The Home minister has appealed to withdraw ongoing agitation and come for dialogue. The GJAC will meet soon and take appropriate action, but the movement for Gorkhaland will continue," Gurung said in a Facebook post.

Gurung's comment followed a meeting between Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and a GJAC delegation in Delhi in which the Centre assured that it would conven a tripartite meeting on the demand for Gorkhaland.

The Centre promised to convene a tripartite meeting soon involving the West Bengal government and GJAC to discuss the statehood demand.
