The enforcement staff of Drugs and Food Control Organisation today seized 159 cartons of gutka worth Rs 21 lakh from two trucks at Lakhanpur Check Post.
The move follows the imposition of ban on manufacture, storage, sale, transportation, display or distribution of gutka by the Commissioner, Food Safety, M K Dwivedi, officials said.
Meanwhile, Controller Drug & Food, Satish Gupta, has appealed the public to refrain from indulging in violation of prohibition order on the subject.
Gupta also informed that violators can face imprisonment upto six months and imposition of a fine of minimum Rs one lakh.
