Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh today announced to donate his one month's salary to the state's education development programmes and said literacy was very essential and should be compulsory for everyone.

Every girl and boy should be literate in the society and there was a need to revamp and modernise the primary education system, the Governor said at a prize giving event of 21st state-level Bhamashah Felicitation to selected teachers here.

"I donate my one month's salary for education development programmes in the state," he announced.

Expressing concern over higher education, Singh said it needed a lot of improvement.

Twenty lakh degrees which were not prepared in the University of Rajasthan (Jaipur) for the last 25 years were prepared and would be distributed to qualifying students on July 7 here at the main convocation, the Governor said.

Among others who addressed the event included state Education Minister (School) Vasudev Devnani and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Surendra Goyal.
