Guv, CM, political leaders extend I-Day greetings

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and leaders of various political parties today greeted people on the eve of Independence Day.

"We are proud to be the citizens of this great nation. Let us pledge to revitalise our energies to make India a global leader in all spheres", Rosaiah said.

"On the auspicious occasion of our nation's Independence Day, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to citizens of our nation", he said in a Raj Bhavan release.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said her government has increased financial assistance to families of freedom fighters, including descendants of Veerapandia Kattabomman, Marudhu brothers.
 

Stating that her government has been renovating and maintaining memorials of several freedom fighters, she recalled the inauguration of memorials set up for freedom fighters Velunachiyaar and Veerapandia Kattabomman.

"Let us all pledge ourselves to unite as Indians and safeguard the independence in memory of our ancestors who toiled hard for country's independence", she said in an official release.

BJP leader Tamilisai Sounderrajan, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President E V K S Elangovan and PMK Founder S Ramadoss also extended greetings.
