US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel has met his Colombian counterpart Juan Carlos Pinzon to discuss close security partnership between the two countries, a Pentagon spokesman said.
"Hagel commended Colombia for continuing to make significant process in their campaign against the FARC (country's largest rebel group)," Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said.
US will continue to support Colombia in its efforts to defeat a common threat and achieve a lasting peace, he added during his meet yesterday.
The two leaders also discussed ways the US and Colombian militaries can work with one another on regional long-term defence planning and other future opportunities for collaboration.
"Hagel noted that Colombia provides significant capabilities that have helped increase stability in the region," Little said.
"Hagel stressed the importance of working with the Colombian defence ministry to identify opportunities for closer collaboration ahead of additional high-level bilateral security meetings later this summer," the Pentagon spokesman said.
