An elderly couple today drowned while making a failed attempt to save their four-year-old grandson, who slipped into a water tank here at Mahjad village in the district, the police said.
The family had gone out to the garden where Yogesh slipped and fell into the tank, they said.
According to police, seeing Yogesh drowning his grand-parents -- Ram Swarup (55) and Prempati (52) -- jumped into the pond to rescue him. However, since both of them didn't know how to to swim they too drowned in the water body.
Soon the villagers gathered and helped pull out all the three bodies from the tank, an official said.
"The three victims were rushed to hospital where doctors declared them as brought dead," the official said, adding that the bodies were handed over to the family members after the post-mortem was conducted.
