A hawker was arrested by the city police here today for allegedly raping a teenage girl several times under the pretext of marrying her, police sources said here today.
Assistant police inspector S S Patil of Shil-Daighar police station told PTI that the accused Nileshgiri Sajangiri Goswami (19) struck up a friendship with a 13-year-old girl and promised her that he would marry her as well as and take her to Rajastan.
Allegedly, between December 17 and December 21, he raped her repeatedly, according to the police complaint lodged by her mother last evening.
He has been charged under Sections 376 of the Indian Code and also Section 4 of the POCSO Act of 2012, the police said.
