The Madras High court today appointed former District Judge K Balasubramainan as Election Officer/Advocate Commissioner to conduct election to the South India Cine and TV Drivers Association.

Justice S Tamilvanan directed Balasubramainan to fix date of the election and to give 21-days notice to members/eligible voters and file a report on June 9.

The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) sought a direction to appoint a fit person preferably a retired judge to conduct the election to the office bearers for 2014-2016 right from preparation of electoral rolls upto announcing successful candidates.

The counsel for the FEFSI C Shankar submitted cine field employees, who were engaged in different crafts, had formed their respective Associations and nearly 23 craft associations including the South India Cine and TV Drivers Association, were affiliated to FEFSI, which was a governing body for all the unions in the cine and television industry.

The South India Cine and TV Drivers Association prayed for a direction declaring letters issued by FEFSI on March 12 and 13 and April 2, 2012 as null and void and consequently a permanent injunction restraining FEFSI and its men, agents or representative in interfering with peaceful administration of the association.

The counsel for the FEFSI contended that relief sought by the South India Cine and TV Drivers Association was not legally sustainable and FEFSI has to conduct its election.
