HC asks Varanasi civic body, VDA to file counter affidavits on cleanliness in city

The Allahabad High Court today asked the Varanasi district administration, its development authority and the civic body to file counter affidavits about the cleanliness in the Parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The bench comprising Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Vinay Kumar Chaudhary and three others.

The court has also issued notice to a private agency which was assigned the task to keep the city clean .

The counsel appearing for petitioner said because of the filth in the entire city, particularly in the vicinity of Vishwanath Temple, thenumber of tourists was decreasing.
 

He said the district administration should keep the city clean in order to attract tourists.

The court asked the state counsel and the counsel appearing for the Varanasi Municipal Corporation and the Varanasi Development Authority to file a counter affidavit and clarify their stand about forming a panel of officers to formulate a scheme for making the city clean.

The court has fixed March 20 as the next date of hearing.
