The Orissa High Court today slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on BJD MLA from Titlagarh, Tukuni Sahu for wasting its time and putting a petitioner in embarrassment by not responding to a court notice within the stipulated period.

A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on the legislator by the High Court on October 30 for failing to respond in time to the notice of the court.

In an election-related petition filed by former MLA and Congress leader Surendra Singh Bhoi, the HC had on October 30 asked the BJD leader to file her written statement by November 12.

Sahu, however, filed the statement on November 14 for which a single-judge bench of Justice Biswanath Rath imposed the fine on her, saying the written statement of the MLA shall be considered only when she pays the fine.
