The Madras High Court bench here has been moved to restrain Tirunelveli Corporation Mayor Bhuvaneswari from discharging her duties for allegedly committing a fraud on the State Election Commission by supressing her marriage.

Petitioner S.Murugan, who claims himself as one of the witnesses to the wedding, submitted that the Mayor had wrongly mentioned Kanagarawshwaran as her husband though they had only a live-in relationship.

He said the marriage between Krishnakumar and Bhuvaneswari had not been dissolved in any court of law.

While so, the Mayor had made a false affidavit before the SEC by suppressing her marriage, which was illegal. It was against Indian Penal Code, Criminal Proceedure Code and the People Representation Act.

He has made a representation to the authorities, including the SEC, to take action against the Mayor for wrong delcaration. But no step had been taken so far.

Justice B.Rajendran ordered issue of notice to the officials, including SEC.
