Press Trust of India Chennai
The Madras High Court today issued notice to Annamalai University and the state Health Secretary on appeals filed by some 150 students against the order of a single judge who had dismissed their petitions challenging the fee structure.

A division bench comprising justices Satish K Agnihotri and K K Sasidharan extended the time limit to December 17 for depositing requisite fee and posted the appeals for further hearing to December 18.

The students have prayed that their colleges coming under the University, which has become state run, should be directed to collect the fees as per that fixed by government medical colleges.

Dismissing their plea, the judge had said "...The fee charged by the Annamalai University is authorized by the statutory provisions of the Annamalai University Act. The fee structure is also necessitated by the financial position of the college and justified by the income and expenditure account.
