The Madras High Court today ordered issue of notice to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption on a contempt petition filed with regard to the registration of a case on a complaint made on the expenses by the previous DMK government for the World Classical Tamil Conference.

Justice R. Mala, before whom the contempt petition filed by B.Ramesh Babu, an advocate, and came up today, directed DVAC to file its reply before August 6.

The petitioner alleged the previous DMK government had spent several crores of rupees on the conference which was held on June 23, 2010. He alleged that as there were contradictory statements on the expenditure on the conference he filed a criminal original petition for registration of a case.

When the case came up, the state Public Prosecutor submitted that the investigation was entrusted to DVAC.

The Court had, after recording the submission, directed DVAC to register a case on his complaint and proceed in accordance with law, the petitioner contended.

In his contempt petition, the petitioner alleged that he had handed over the copy of the court direction to DVAC and had sent two legal notices to comply with the court order. The petitioner submitted that as there was no response, he filed the contempt petition.
