Kerala High Court today stayed an order of the executive officer of Sreepadmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram relaxing its dress code for women, permitting devotees to wear the traditional Indian salwar kameez and churidar while worshipping at the ancient shrine.
Dealing with two petitions challenging the decision of the executive officer, a division bench of the High Court said the official has no authority to take such decision.
The court said the Tantri (hereditary high priest) of the temple is the ultimate authority in the matters of its tradition, custom and rituals.
