The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today stayed the order of the Tirunelveli District Collector rejecting the resolution of Kalingapatti Panchayat requesting him to shift or relocate the government run Liquor shop.

The High Court Bench had on September 4, directed the Collector to consider the request for shifting or relocating the liquor shop within four weeks, by the president of the Panchayat and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Vaiko's brother V Ravichandran.

Ravichandran had filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court Bench here to close down a state-run liquor shop in their village.

He claimed that a similar writ petition filed by him was disposed of by the High Court Bench on September 4 with a direction to the Collector to consider the request.

However, accusing the Collector of having passed an order without his knowledge on August 22 itself rejecting his request, the petitioner urged the court to quash the order and immediate closure of the shop since it caused nuisance to the villagers.
