Headphones in ears, truck driver killed as train hits vehicle

A 26-year-old man was killed as the mini truck he was driving was hit by a goods train at an unmanned railway crossing here today with police saying that he had headphones plugged in his ears.

Mohammad Owasi was driving the mini truck which was hit by the goods train this afternoon between Madhising and Ahimanpur stations on the Varanasi-Allahabad railway section, killing him, police said.

According to eye witnesses, the driver had his headphones plugged in his ears and all efforts to draw his attention on the approaching train failed, they said.

Due to the accident, rail traffic on the route remained suspended for one and a half hour with trains being stopped at different stations, officials said.
