West Bengal Health Services Director B R Satpathi today sought a report from the Chief Medical Officer Health (CMOH) of Cooch Behar on the loss of vision of eight patients who had undergone a cataract removal operation at MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar.
Satpathi arrived here today and held a meeting with District Magistrate P Ulganathan, CMOH Dr Subhasis Saha, MJN Hospital Super Dr Jaideb Barman and health officials from different blocks of the district.
About the cataract operation in MJN Hospital, the Health Director said that he sought a detailed report on the matter over telephone when he heard the news.

Today too he asked about it to the CMOH and the latter told him that he will hand over the report tomorrow before his departure from Cooch Behar.
Satpathi said that in cataract operation 2 to 3 per cent infection may happen but here all the eight patients got infected and so he sought the report.
After going through the report he will take proper steps, Satpathi assured.
A cataract operation was held at MJN Hospital on Thursday and on Friday and before releasing the patients it was observed that the patients lost their vision.
Soon after the incident the authorities referred them to Siliguri and Jalpaiguri for better medical care.
