Excessive heat conditions in Delhi have forced the organisers to postpone a National Tribal Carnival scheduled to be held from Friday and slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The carnival, being projected as the first-of-its-kind, which was scheduled to be held in the national capital from April 29 till May 2, will now take place in winter. Exact dates are yet to be finalised, a senior official of the Tribal Affairs Ministry said.

"The National Tribal Carnival, aimed at promoting tribal life and culture, has been postponed due to excessive heat conditions prevailing in the national capital. As the carnival will be day-long event, people participating in the event will find it tough due to hot weather conditions," the official said.

The purpose of this carnival was to showcase and promote various facets of tribal culture, tradition, customs and their skills and to expose it to the general population with a view to utilising the potential for overall holistic development of the Scheduled Tribes.

Activities like displaying documented traditional socio-culture aspects, collection of art/artifacts, cultural performances, demonstration of skills like sports, paintings, traditional healing practices etc will be part of the event.
