Temperature in most parts of Gangetic West Bengal remained above 40 degrees Celsius today, with Bankura recording the day's highest at 44.5 degrees.
The districts of Bankura, Burdwan, Birbhum, Purulia and West Midnapore sizzled under heatwave condition with the Met department forecasting similar weather condition for the next two days at least.
While Bankura recorded the state's highest day temperature at 44.5 degrees Celsius, the mercury touched 42.1 degrees, 41.3 degrees, 39 degrees at Asansol, Sriniketan and Burdwan respectively.
Kolkata recorded the day's highest at 37.1 degrees, two degrees above average, but the discomfort level was acute with very high humidity.
