Heavy rains lash Haryana, Punjab; temperature dips

Moderate to heavy spell of rains lashed vast swathes of Haryana and Punjab for the third day today, causing mercury to dip sharply.

Chandigarh was lashed by showers during the day and the maximum temperature here settled at 27.9 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal limits, the MeT Department report said here.

Ambala received a heavy downpour and the maximum dropped to 25.8 degrees Celsius, eight notches below normal while Karnal, too, got heavy rains and the mercury dropped by nine notches to settle at 25 degrees Celsius.

Hisar, too, had rains and the maximum temperature settled at 32.6 degrees Celsius, down six degrees.
 

In Punjab, Amritsar was lashed by heavy showers and the maximum temperature was recorded at 30.8 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal while Patiala, too, had heavy rains and the mercury dropped by six notches to settle at 27.6 degrees Celsius.

Ludhiana received moderate rainfall and the maximum was registered at 28.5 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal level.

The MeT has forecast moderate to rather heavy rain/ thunder showers at most places in the two states until tomorrow.

Meanwhile, continuous showers brought relief to the people from the sultry weather, though rains also caused inconvenience to people, triggering water logging specially in low-lying areas and traffic snarls in few parts of Punjab and Haryana.
