High range Idukki district in Kerala today observed a hartal in protest against an affidavit filed by government in the High Court declaring agriculture land including plantation as forest land.
No untoward incident was reported in connection with the hartal, police said.
Shops and business establishments remained closed.
Barring few private vehicles, buses, autorickshaws kept off the roads as part of the hartal called by 'High Range Protection Committee.'
Educational institutions in the district also did not function. Hartal supporters took out protests at various centres.
CPI-M led LDF Opposition had extended support to the hartal.
