Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh condemned the terrorist attack on an Army base in Uri town of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning and termed it as a strike on the national conscience.

"It was an attack on national conscience and India will not be cowed down by such attacks. Befitting reply should be given to those involved in this cowardly act," he said.

Singh paid tributes to soldiers who died in the attack and prayed for speedy recovery of those injured.

Heavily armed militants stormed a battalion headquarters of the Army in North Kashmir's Uri town, killing at least 17 jawans and injuring 19 other personnel in the strike in which four ultras were neutralised.
