Abut 1,000 activists belonging to HIndu Munnani were arrested even as over 1,400 workers of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam (TMMK) staged a demonstration in the city taking up the issue of Babri Masjid, on its 23rd demolition anniversary.
The TMMK workers gathered at Red Cross Junction and raised slogans and demanded that the Masjid be reconstructed at the site in Ayodhya.
However, nearly 1,000 workers of Hindu Munnani were arrested at Central Bus Stand, as they sought to construct Ram temple in the disuputed site and attempted to take out a rally, police said.
TMMK was given permission to stage demonstration, while Munnani was denied permission to take out any rally or demonstraton, police said.
