Home guard jawan shot dead

A 45-year-old home guard jawan was allegedly shot dead during an encounter between police and criminals in Hayatnagar area of the district, a police spokesman said.

In the wake of Eid-ul-Azha festival Sub-Inspector Naresh Kumar Katiyar along with three home guards was on law and order duty in Rasoolpur Dhatra village late last night when the team came to know about movement of some criminals, he said.

The spokesman said that acting on the information the team rounded up the criminals and arrested two of them identified as Rishi Pal and Prakash.

He said that on being caught, Rishi Pal shot dead home guard jawan Amar Singh and escaped.
 

Prakash has been arrested, police said.

A case had been lodged against Prakash, Rishi Pal and two others Chandra Pal and Babu in this connection.

The home guard's body has been sent for post-mortem, they added.
